1) Thirty-nine sheets of drawings mounted as a double-sided accordion album; ink and light color on paper; signed Seisei Kyosai on 3 sheets and sealed Kyosai on 13 sheets
2) Plum flowers and painting goods in front of a tiger screen, woodblock print, surimono, signed Seisei Kyosai ga and sealed, 1878
1) 12 3⁄4 x 9 in. (32.4 x 22.9 cm.) each page approx.
2) Shikishiban surimono: 8 7⁄8 x 11 1⁄8 in. (22.5 x 28.3 cm.)

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work An album of preparatory drawings and a tiger surimono by Kawanabe Kyosai was auctioned at Christies in New York in March last year. It changed hands for a price of USD 7,560.00 (€ 6,815.11) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Kawanabe Kyosai achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Hell Courtesan (Jigoku Dayu) in March 2010 with an auction result of USD 482,500.00 (€ 356,720.39).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit An album of preparatory drawings and a tiger surimono von Kawanabe Kyosai kam im März letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von USD 7.560,00 (€ 6.815,11) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 6.000,00 – 8.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Kawanabe Kyosai erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Hell Courtesan (Jigoku Dayu) im März 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 482.500,00 (€ 356.720,39).
