KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI (1760-1849)
Edo period (1615-1868), circa 1830-1831
An ōban yoko-e print entitled Sanka haku-u (White Rain Below the Mountain), from the series Fugaku sanjūrokkei (36 Views of Mount Fuji), depicting the mountain, its peak and steep upper slopes capped with snow, rising majestically above billowing thunderclouds, with stylized forks of lightning at lower right, signed Hokusai aratame Iitsu hitsu, published by Nishmuraya Yohachi (Eijudō)
