etching, 1628, on laid paper, watermark Circle, a good impression of the second state (of three), with Orlandi's address, beginning to show a little wear, with thread margins, some time staining along the sheet edges, pale scattered foxing mostly visible verso, a vertical flattened fold, partially broken and skilfully repaired, a few tiny repairs at the sheet edges, otherwise in good condition

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Drunken Silenus by Jusepe de Ribera was sold in the Old Master Prints auction at Christies in London in December 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,250.00 (€ 2,659.24) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jusepe de Ribera achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Girl With A Tambourine (The Sense Of Hearing) in July 2019 with an auction result of GBP 5,743,000.00 (€ 6,305,432.17).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Drunken Silenus von Jusepe de Ribera wurde im Dezember 2019 in der Auktion Old Master Prints bei Christies in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 2.250,00 (€ 2.659,24) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jusepe de Ribera erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A Girl With A Tambourine (The Sense Of Hearing) im Juli 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.743.000,00 (€ 6.305.432,17).
