Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Three King'S Daughters Fair (Mary Peacock, Annie Chinery Cameron, And Emily Peacock) by Julia Margaret Cameron was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in July 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 4,000.00 (€ 3,397.32). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Julia Margaret Cameron achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Sir John Herschel in April 2017 with an auction result of USD 112,500.00 (€ 103,258.38).
