Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2016 Christies in London held the auction From Ancient To Modern: A Distinguished Private Collection, which included the work Portrait of the Cordoban intellectual and writer Don Enrique Vaca de Alfaro (1635-1685), bust-length, in a brown coat by Juan de Valdés Leal. The price achieved of GBP 25,000.00 (€ 29,229.06) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. Admittedly, works by Juan de Valdés Leal have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Visitation in January 2009 with an auction result of USD 182,500.00 (€ 142,533.58).
