This artwork by Josef Maria Grassi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in October 2008. In the Old Master & British Pictures auction, the work Self-portrait, three-quarter-length, seated in a brown coat, sketching, a landscape beyond sold for GBP 13,750.00 (€ 17,526.32) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 6,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Josef Maria Grassi; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait de Tadeusz Kosciusko (1746-1817), en buste, portant un uniforme et la décoration de l'ordre de Cincinatus sold at auction in March 2002 with the realized price of EUR 21,150.00.
