Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In June 2003 Christies in London held the auction IMPORTANT GOLD BOXES,OBJECTS OF VERTU & PORTRAIT MINIATURES, which included the work Holy Roman Empress Maria Ludovica (1745-1792) holding a letter addressed to her brother Charles, facing left in white satin dress with ruffled neckline and long sleeves, jewel-set armlet and light blue jewelled belt, jewel-set gold headdress with fal by Josef Maria Grassi. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 5,019.00 (€ 7,212.58). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Josef Maria Grassi - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait de Tadeusz Kosciusko (1746-1817), en buste, portant un uniforme et la décoration de l'ordre de Cincinatus, which sold at auction in March 2002 for EUR 21,150.00.
