In November 2008 Christies in London held the auction The Country House Sale: Pomfret House and Tetworth Hall, which included the work Ardlussa Bay and The Salting Cliffs by Joseph Langsdale Pickering. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 4,750.00 (€ 5,743.11), 58% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Joseph Langsdale Pickering; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Reef, Holy Island sold at auction in November 2008 with the realized price of GBP 5,000.00 (€ 6,045.38).
