Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In July this year Christies in New York held the auction British and European Art, which included the work A clothbound sketchbook of 34 pages, with 23 drawings, including: one street scene; seventeen studies of coastal scenes and figures, several of which relate to Up from the Sea; three female figure studies; one study of legs; one classical composition by Joseph Edward Southall. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 8,190.00 (€ 9,555.25). Admittedly, works by Joseph Edward Southall have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Rose Bowl in July 2017 with an auction result of GBP 43,750.00 (€ 48,818.28).

Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 8.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 8.190,00 (€ 9.555,25) einen neuen Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Joseph Edward Southall auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Rose Bowl im Juli 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 43.750,00 (€ 48.818,28).
