Artwork auctioned at seven times the upper estimate price
When the work Jack In The Box by José John Santos III was auctioned at Christies in Hong Kong in May 2019, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 90,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than seven times as high at HKD 687,500.00 (€ 78,684.19). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by José John Santos III; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Paper Dolls sold at auction in May 2011 with the realized price of HKD 1,100,000.00 (€ 98,400.11).

Als die Arbeit Jack In The Box von José John Santos III im Mai 2019 bei Christies in Hong Kong versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – HKD 90.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit HKD 687.500,00 (€ 78.684,19) mehr als siebenmal so hoch. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von José John Santos III; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Paper Dolls im Mai 2011 mit dem Hammerpreis von HKD 1.100.000,00 (€ 98.400,11).
