Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Joos van Cleve achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2014. In the Old Master Paintings auction, the work Virgin And Child sold for USD 1,445,000.00 (€ 1,070,370.37) - well above the upper estimate of USD 600,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Joos van Cleve; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Madonna Of The Cherries sold at auction in October last year with the realized price of USD 1,071,000.00 (€ 1,078,115.56).
