In December 2020 Christies in London held the auction Old Masters Evening Sale, which included the work Portrait of King Christian II of Denmark (1481-1559), small half-length, in a slashed doublet, wearing the Order of the Golden Fleece by Joos van Cleve. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 475,000.00 (€ 530,617.33), 58% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Joos van Cleve - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Madonna Of The Cherries, which sold at auction in October last year for USD 1,071,000.00 (€ 1,078,115.56).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 58 % übertroffen
Im Dezember 2020 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Masters Evening Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of King Christian II of Denmark (1481-1559), small half-length, in a slashed doublet, wearing the Order of the Golden Fleece von Joos van Cleve zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 475.000,00 (€ 530.617,33) und damit 58% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Joos van Cleve mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The Madonna Of The Cherries beobachtet, die im Oktober letzten Jahres für USD 1.071.000,00 (€ 1.078.115,56) versteigert wurde.
