Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2019 Sothebys in London held the auction Property from the Estate of Sir John and Lady Smith, which included the work Murton Colliery, County Durham by John Wilson Carmichael. It changed hands for a price of GBP 7,500.00 (€ 8,234.50) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Wilson Carmichael achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Opening Engagement At Trafalgar; H.M.S. 'Royal Sovereign' Raking The Stern Of The Spanish Flagship 'Santa Ana' in January 2018 with an auction result of GBP 237,000.00 (€ 270,601.06).

Im Juli 2019 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Property from the Estate of Sir John and Lady Smith durch, in der auch die Arbeit Murton Colliery, County Durham von John Wilson Carmichael zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 7.500,00 (€ 8.234,50) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 6.000,00 – 8.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Wilson Carmichael erzielen.
