Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A collier brig, a lugger, and other fishing vessels off the north east coast by John Wilson Carmichael was sold in the British Art on Paper auction at Christies in London in November 2001. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 4,465.00 (€ 7,105.22) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Wilson Carmichael achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Opening Engagement At Trafalgar; H.M.S. 'Royal Sovereign' Raking The Stern Of The Spanish Flagship 'Santa Ana' in January 2018 with an auction result of GBP 237,000.00 (€ 270,601.06).
