Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by John William Godward could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in January last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the The European Art Sale Part I auction, the work Contemplation changed hands for USD 239,400.00 (€ 213,521.23) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 250,000.00 – 350,000.00. Admittedly, works by John William Godward have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Far away thoughts in December 2012 with an auction result of GBP 1,049,250.00 (€ 1,294,016.65).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Dieses Kunstwerk von John William Godward konnte im Januar letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York für einen unerwartet niedrigen Preis ersteigert werden. In der Auktion The European Art Sale Part I wechselte die Arbeit Contemplation für USD 239.400,00 (€ 213.521,23) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 250.000,00 – 350.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John William Godward auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Far away thoughts im Dezember 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 1.049.250,00 (€ 1.294.016,65).
