Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work View of Aiguilles du Dru, near Chamonix, France by John White Abbott was auctioned at Christies in London in March last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,260.00 (€ 1,493.87). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John White Abbott achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Ugbrooke, Devon in June 2006 with an auction result of GBP 38,400.00 (€ 55,564.16).
