In January 2006 Christies in London held the auction British and Continental Pictures, which included the work A view across a river, traditionally identified as the Rhine by John Syer. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,680.00 (€ 2,462.38), 40% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by John Syer have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Salvaging A Wreck, Dunstanborough, Northumberland in September 2004 with an auction result of GBP 9,560.00 (€ 13,927.71).

Im Januar 2006 führte Christies in London die Auktion British and Continental Pictures durch, in der auch die Arbeit A view across a river, traditionally identified as the Rhine von John Syer zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 1.680,00 (€ 2.462,38) und damit 40% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Syer auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Salvaging A Wreck, Dunstanborough, Northumberland im September 2004 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 9.560,00 (€ 13.927,71).
