Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Xebecs off an Italian harbour; and Bordighera viewed from the hills (illustrated) by John Syer was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2011. The price achieved of GBP 500.00 (€ 583.70) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 400.00 – 600.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Syer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Salvaging A Wreck, Dunstanborough, Northumberland in September 2004 with an auction result of GBP 9,560.00 (€ 13,927.71).
