Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A figure crossing a bridge over a river; and A cottage in a wooded landscape by John Syer was auctioned at Christies in London in October 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 250.00 – 350.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 235.00 (€ 379.79). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Syer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Salvaging A Wreck, Dunstanborough, Northumberland in September 2004 with an auction result of GBP 9,560.00 (€ 13,927.71).
