Auction result well in line with expectations
In September 2004 Christies in London held the auction British and Victorian Paintings, which included the work Portrait of A Boy, Three-Quarter-Length, Traditionally Identified As 'Master Best', In A Blue Coat And Floral Waistcoat, Holding A Bow And Arrow, In A Wooded Landscape by John Simmons. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 5,000.00 – 8,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 5,736.00 (€ 8,356.63) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by John Simmons have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Titania asleep: a scene from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', Act II, Scene ii in December 2016 with an auction result of GBP 56,250.00 (€ 65,765.38).
