In November 2000 Christies in London held the auction Maritime and Naval Battles, which included the work Off the South coast by John James Wilson. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 3,290.00 (€ 5,377.38), 32% above the upper estimate. Other works by John James Wilson have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of USD 9,560.00 (€ 9,759.09) in July 2002 for the work Fishing in the channel.
