Auction result well in line with expectations
In September 2020 Bonhams in Edinburgh held the auction The Sporting & Wildlife Sale, which included the work A group of six hand-coloured ornithological lithographs, later strike, from The Birds of Asia, London, 1850-1883, to include 'Phasianus Colchicus': Common Pheasant, 'Thaumalea Amherstiae': Lady Amherst's Pheasant, 'Ceriornis Melanocephala': Western H by John Gould. The price achieved of GBP 637.50 (€ 702.95) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 500.00 – 700.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Gould achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Birds of Australia, [1840- 1848-1869, 8 volumes including Supplement|AID711784] in May last year with an auction result of GBP 302,400.00 (€ 355,744.81).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 637,50 (€ 702,95) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 500,00 – 700,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Gould erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Birds of Australia, [1840- 1848-1869, 8 volumes including Supplement|AID711784] im Mai letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 302.400,00 (€ 355.744,81).
