Richter, printed by Hullmandel & Walton, 3 plates double-page, contemporary brown morocco gilt by Wickwar, edges gilt, marbled endpapers, occasional spotting and offsetting, dampstaining affecting a few plates, one caption cropped, tissue repair to recto of 'Splendid Parakeet', final gathering of Volume VI beginning to split, two marks to upper cover of Volume VI, extremities slightly rubbed

In May last year Sothebys in London held the auction The Library of Henry Rogers Broughton, 2nd Baron Fairhaven Part I, which included the work The Birds of Australia, 1840- 1848-1869, 8 volumes including Supplement by John Gould. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 302,400.00 (€ 355,744.81), 51% above the upper estimate.
