Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Allegory Of Peace by John Francis Rigaud was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 8,125.00 (€ 9,654.26). Admittedly, works by John Francis Rigaud have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Lady Jane Mildmay, seated three-quarter-length, in a white silk dress playing the harp in January 2005 with an auction result of USD 84,000.00 (€ 64,372.75).
