Auction result misses estimated price range

When the work Sketches by John Doyle was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2007, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 480.00 (€ 706.35). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Doyle - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Taking an Airing in Hyde Park, which sold at auction in May 2014 for GBP 2,125.00 (€ 2,611.69).
