Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Woodland Nymph by John Collier was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 8,820.00 (€ 7,635.04). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Collier achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Sleeping Beauty in June 2008 with an auction result of GBP 433,250.00 (€ 547,642.53).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Woodland Nymph von John Collier im Oktober 2021 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 10.000,00 – 15.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 8.820,00 (€ 7.635,04) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Collier erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Sleeping Beauty im Juni 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 433.250,00 (€ 547.642,53).
