Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Views of London: A View of Westminster Bridge; A View taken near Mr Smith's House at Battersea, looking up the Thames; A View near Greenwich Hospital; A View of Hammersmith, looking down the Thames; A View of Erith, looking up the Thames; and A View by John Boydell was sold in the Christie's Interiors - Style & Spirit auction at Christies in London in May 2011. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,125.00 (€ 1,286.44) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Boydell - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work William Penn's Treaty with the Indians, When He Founded the Province of Pennsylvania in North America 1681 (Fowble 130), which sold at auction in January 2000 for USD 4,025.00 (€ 4,125.24).
