Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Old Abbot's Bridge, Bury St. Edmunds, with a shepherd and his flock resting in the shade by John Berney Crome was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,500.00 (€ 3,022.69). Admittedly, works by John Berney Crome have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Thames at Northfleet in November 2008 with an auction result of GBP 11,875.00 (€ 14,357.77).
