In May 2014 Sothebys in New York held the auction Contemporary Art Evening Auction, which included the work Commissioned Painting: A Painting By Edgar Transue by John Baldessari. The price achieved of USD 2,517,000.00 (€ 1,845,307.92) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 2,000,000.00 – 3,000,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Commissioned Painting: A Painting By Edgar Transue is the most expensive artwork by John Baldessari that we have observed at auctions so far.
