Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A mountainous river landscape with cattle drovers making a crossing by a ruined castle by Jan van der Bent was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 11,875.00 (€ 12,472.21). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan van der Bent - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A capriccio of a Mediterranean harbour with elegant travellers, a moor and an oriental merchants, and other figues, which sold at auction in July 2000 for GBP 18,800.00 (€ 30,399.35).
