Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2009 Christies in Amsterdam held the auction European Noble and Private Collections, which included the work A portrait of a gentleman, half-length, possibly King Louis XVI, wearing a jacket decorated with white lace by Johann Baptist Lampi I. The price achieved of EUR 1,062.50 was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as EUR 800.00 – 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Johann Baptist Lampi I achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Count Franz Peter Friedrich von Diesbach (1739-1811), half-length in April 2017 with an auction result of USD 271,500.00 (€ 249,196.88).
