The work Portrait Of Charles Whitworth, Later 1St Earl Whitworth (1752-1825), British Ambassador, Envoy-Extraordinary And Minister-Plenipotentiary To St. Petersburg by Johann Baptist Lampi I was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale auction at Sothebys in London in December 2014. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 128,500.00 (€ 165,422.11), 61% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Johann Baptist Lampi I; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of Count Franz Peter Friedrich von Diesbach (1739-1811), half-length sold at auction in April 2017 with the realized price of USD 271,500.00 (€ 249,196.88).
