Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Handball Players, Brooklyn, 1946; and Rivington Street, N.Y.C., 1947 by Jerome Liebling was auctioned at Christies in New York in December 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,500.00 – 2,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 937.50 (€ 722.65). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jerome Liebling - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work NYC, Union Square, which sold at auction in February 2002 for USD 1,645.00 (€ 1,899.98).
