Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A fishing boat heeling in the breeze off Mount Orgeuil Castle, Jersey (illustrated); and Shipping in a stiff breeze off Jersey by John Le Capelain was sold in the Maritime Art auction at Christies in London in May 2012. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 812.50 (€ 1,012.34) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Le Capelain - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Shipping at dusk, which sold at auction in November 2010 for GBP 2,750.00 (€ 3,286.25).
