Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Morning: A view of the Forum Romanum with the Arch of Constantine and the Colosseum; and Afternoon: A view of the Forum Romanum with the Temple of Saturn and the Temple of Vespasian by Jean-Baptiste Lallemand was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2015. The price achieved of GBP 15,000.00 (€ 21,264.96) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 12,000.00 – 18,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jean-Baptiste Lallemand - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Fishermen and courtesans in a Mediterranean port at sunset; and Fishermen and Turkish merchants in a Mediterrenean port atsunrise, which sold at auction in May 2005 for USD 102,000.00 (€ 82,597.78).
