Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Jean-Baptiste de Roy could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in February 2013 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master and 19th Century European Paintings and Drawings, including Property from the Estate of Giancarlo Baroni auction, the work A Horse And Cows By A Rushing River changed hands for USD 6,875.00 (€ 5,256.52) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 8,000.00 – 10,000.00. Other works by Jean-Baptiste de Roy have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in April 2000 by the work Cattle on a river bank, drovers conversing beyond; and Cattle and sheep on a river bank, a farmstead, shepherd and traveller beyond at GBP 5,287.50 (€ 9,051.99).
