Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Hurdy-Gurdy Player With An Old Woman Singing And A Mocking Youth by Jan Tilius was auctioned at Sothebys in London in April 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 34,100.00 (€ 43,472.68). Other works by Jan Tilius have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in July 2009 by the work A hurdy-gurdy player with an old woman singing and a mocking youth at a casement at GBP 43,250.00 (€ 49,075.79).
