Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2000 Christies in Amsterdam held the auction Pictures, Watercolours and Drawings, which included the work A nobleman and his wife on an evening stroll by a mansion by Jan Gerard Smits. The price achieved of NLG 1,170.20 (€ 514.38) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as NLG 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan Gerard Smits achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Damrak entree Amsterdam: a view of the Damrak, Amsterdam in February 2004 with an auction result of EUR 8,365.00.
