A top price for Jan Frans van Bloemen - as previously expected
In January 2016 Sothebys in New York held the auction The Road to Rome: Property from a Distinguished Italian Private Collection, Part I, which included the work A Scene In The Roman Campagna With A Capriccio View Of Tivoli And A Bolt Of Lightning by Jan Frans van Bloemen. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 250,000.00 – 350,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 274,000.00 (€ 252,954.21) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, A Scene In The Roman Campagna With A Capriccio View Of Tivoli And A Bolt Of Lightning is the most expensive artwork by Jan Frans van Bloemen that we have observed at auctions so far.
