In April 2007 Christies in New York held the auction Important Old Master Paintings Part II, which included the work Herders resting in an italianate landscape by Jan Frans Soolmaker. The price achieved of USD 13,200.00 (€ 9,663.25) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Herders resting in an italianate landscape is the most expensive artwork by Jan Frans Soolmaker that we have observed at auctions so far.
