Upper estimate price exceeded by 47 %.
In January 2021 Sothebys in New York held the auction Master Paintings Part II, which included the work The Shire Horse Elephant in an Extensive Landscape by James Ward. The »bidding war« ended at USD 44,100.00 (€ 36,341.16), 47% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Ward achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Terrier, Stoat And Dead Rabbit In A Rocky Landscape in November 2005 with an auction result of GBP 512,000.00 (€ 752,192.71).
