Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work The Obstinate Donkey by James Ward was sold in the Old Master Paintings and Portrait Miniatures auction at Sothebys in London in April 2021. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 9,450.00 (€ 10,870.25), 18% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Ward achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Terrier, Stoat And Dead Rabbit In A Rocky Landscape in November 2005 with an auction result of GBP 512,000.00 (€ 752,192.71).
