Auction result misses estimated price range

When the work Fishermen On The Rocks by James Milton Sessions was auctioned at Christies in New York in September 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,912.00 (€ 1,539.82). Other works by James Milton Sessions have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in December 2021 by the work Figure in a beached fishing boat at USD 3,060.00 (€ 2,703.66).
