This artwork by James Hamilton achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in August 2020. In the American Art Online auction, the work Shipping on the Golden Gate sold for USD 16,250.00 (€ 13,614.28) - well above the upper estimate of USD 7,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by James Hamilton; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Dragging the Nets sold at auction in January 2001 with the realized price of USD 12,925.00 (€ 13,885.90).
