In the British and Victorian Pictures auction, the work Portrait of Thomas Edward Fairfax, Full-Length, In A Black Coat, Holding Gloves In His Left Hand, In A Landscape sold for GBP 1,200.00 (€ 1,751.61) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 600.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by James Godsell Middleton; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of a lady, bust-length, in a pink dress and black shawl and garnet and diamond pendant, in a feigned oval sold at auction in March 2001 with the realized price of GBP 1,527.50 (€ 2,464.77).
