Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by James Godsell Middleton could be acquired at Sothebys in Olympia in November 2006 for an unexpectedly low price. In the British and Continental Pictures including Marine pictures auction, the work Portrait Of A Gentleman, In A Painted Oval changed hands for GBP 900.00 (€ 1,336.53) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00. Other works by James Godsell Middleton have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in March 2001 by the work Portrait of a lady, bust-length, in a pink dress and black shawl and garnet and diamond pendant, in a feigned oval at GBP 1,527.50 (€ 2,464.77).
