This artwork by James Duffield Harding achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in March 2001. In the British and Continental Watercolours and Drawings auction, the work Bolton Abbey and woods; and Betws-y-Coed mill sold for GBP 2,702.50 (€ 4,360.75) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by James Duffield Harding; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A crowded merchantman in the Channel amidst other shipping sold at auction in May 2007 with the realized price of GBP 4,200.00 (€ 6,180.58).
