Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work An extensive wooded landscape with figures by James Arthur O'Connor was auctioned at Sothebys in London in May last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 4,788.00 (€ 5,632.63). Admittedly, works by James Arthur O'Connor have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Ford - A mountainous river landscape with a figure with a wagon and horses at a ford in May 2004 with an auction result of GBP 33,460.00 (€ 50,202.32).
