Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Prophetess Hannah Deciding That The Infant Samuel Shall Be Lent To The Lord by Jacques de Gheyn II. was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2015, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 10,625.00 (€ 15,062.68). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jacques de Gheyn II. achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A large beech, partly in leaf in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 1,142,500.00 (€ 1,441,051.72).
