Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Neptune crowned by a putto, surrounded by sea gods and nymphs by Jacopo Cestaro was auctioned at Christies in New York in February 2024, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 7,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 23,940.00 (€ 20,922.92). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jacopo Cestaro - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Annunciation, which sold at auction in January 2002 for USD 58,750.00 (€ 68,361.65).
